Submissions on election votings about to close

2:10 pm on 29 April 2012

Submissions to Parliament's Justice and Electoral Select Committee inquiry into the 2011 vote close this week.

A survey done for the Electoral Commission that was issued on Friday found some non-voters still don't trust politicians and others are uninterested.

Select Committee chair Tim McIndoe says the committee will take on board anything that comes out of the inquiry to ensure enrolment and turnouts for future elections are as high as they can be.

The turnout for the election in November was the lowest in more than 100 years. Nearly a third of all eligible voters chose not to take part.
