The New Zealand Herald says Auckland house values have soared past the 2007 peak, as confident first home buyers enter the market and property owners finally make a move.

Latest valuation figures show Auckland prices are up 5% in a year but that's making it hard for young couples like Jason Conquer and Louise Heather who've been house hunting for 18 months without success.

Mayor Len Brown is said to be on the warpath over the leaking of confidential information about a Ports of Auckland employee, with any senior staff involved likely to face the axe.

The Press says Christchurch is New Zealand's first fracking-free city.

A time capsule filled with newspapers and coins from 1907 has been recovered from the demolished foundations of the former Press building.

The Otago Daily Times reports that four Queenstown people and an Auckland man have been arrested after police seized methamphetamine they say was destined for Queenstown streets.

Work has begun on a $29 million redevelopment at Speight's brewery that will lead to 24 million litres of beer per year flowing from the factory.
