A tourist from the United Kingdom has died while on a downhill bike ride at a Wanaka ski field in the South Island.
Philip Ross Bergman, 26, died about 2pm on Monday while on a group tour organised by the Queenstown Bike Taxis company at the Snow Park in Cardrona Valley.
Senior Constable Sean Hurley says the group had just finished a two-minute downhill ride and had walked a short distance when the man collapsed. Attempts to resuscitate him failed.
Mr Hurley says Mr Bergman was accompanied by his flatmate and friend, with whom he had traveled to New Zealand to attend the Rugby World Cup last year, and was living with in Dunedin.
Police say the death is not suspicious and the matter has been reported to the coroner.
They are offering victim support to the other members of the party.
