A coroner has reserved his decision on the death of Rosemary Ives who died after being shot at a Department of Conservation campground near Turangi in October 2010.

Coroner Wallace Bain heard statements from four people including Department of Conservation staff at the inquest in Rotorua Thursday.

Andrew Mears, 26, was released from prison in January 2012 after serving 11 months of a two-and-a-half year sentence for the manslaughter of Ms Ives.

Mears was hunting illegally at the DoC campsite when he mistook Ms Ives' headlamp for the eyes of a deer and shot her.
