A police investigation is underway in Wellington, following an assault on a woman in the early hours of Saturday morning.
The 21-year-old was walking through Opera House Lane, an alleyway between Manners and Wakefield streets, when she was grabbed by a man and pulled into a dark corner.
Detective Andy Compton says the woman was pinned against the wall and had her dress ripped, before she was able to fight off her attacker.
The man is described as European of heavy build, about 1.8 metres tall and wearing a dark or black hooded sweatshirt.
Anybody who witnessed the assault or any suspicious activity in Opera House Lane is asked to contact the police.
