About 80 people who voted for Mark Jacobs in the Capital and Coast District Health Board elections have had their votes declared void.

Mark Jacobs, who is director of public health at the Ministry of Health, withdrew from the DHB elections 12 days before polling last Saturday amid concerns about a possible conflict of interest.

The returning officer in Wellington, Ross Bly, says about 80 people in Wellington City, not including Porirua City or Kapiti, voted for Dr Jacobs as their first preference without ranking any others.

He says those votes were not transferred to any other DHB candidate and were voided.
