The Labour Party has narrowed the National Party's lead in the latest 3 News Reid Research poll but is still well behind.
National recorded 52.3% support, while Labour got 30.2%.
Labour's likely support partner, the Green Party, scored 9.4% - pushing its combined support to nearly 40%.
The next best minor party was New Zealand First on 2.4%.
The poll of about 1000 people was conducted last week and has a margin of error of plus or minus 3.1%.
