Peters staying quiet on electorate choice

New Zealand First leader Winston Peters is remaining tight-lipped about which electorate he will stand in for the general election.

New Zealand First lost its place in Parliament after Mr Peters failed to win the Tauranga electorate in the last general election and the party polled under the 5% threshold.

Mr Peters has been seen this month handing out leaflets in the North Shore electorate but says he will not be making an announcement on where he will stand at the party's campaign launch in Auckland on Sunday.

He says he does not want to overshadow the launch and will make an announcement on which electorate he will stand in before nominations close on Tuesday.

Mr Peters says it has been hard being out of Parliament and he is having to fund some of the election campaign from his own pocket.

He says New Zealand First will release a series of policies to deal with the country's economy, as well as the rising cost of living and the tax system.
