The government yesterday announced that Auckland would remain at alert level 3 for the foreseeable future, but it announced a three-step plan for easing alert level 3 restrictions.

Step 1 kicks in at midnight tonight allowing outdoor catch-ups with a limit of 10 people from no more than two households, outdoor recreational activities with a maximum of 10 people and a limit of 10 people plus staff at funerals, tangihanga, weddings and civil unions.

The ministry says "you are strongly encouraged to wear a face covering when at gatherings".
