One of the more unusual displays at the National Agricultural Fieldays at Mystery Creek near Hamilton this year is a P lab - set up by police to warn about the growing drug problem in rural areas.
Waikato Police say criminals are increasingly using isolated rural houses and farm buildings to make the drug methamphetamine, or P, so they can stay under the radar.
The communications manager, Andrew McAlley, says P-labs are extremely dangerous, and farmers need to be aware of what could be hidden on their properties.
Mr McAlley says every kilo of P made, produces 7 - 10 kg of toxic waste material - some of which is being tipped into waterways, buried or burned.
