The head of the Ellerslie Flower show says alternative accommodation is available in Christchurch for those no longer able to stay at the Rendezvous Hotel.
The 171-room hotel was hoping to be the first to open inside the central city in time for the show next week but has been prevented from doing so by the Canterbury Earthquake Recovery Authority.
The hotel says the authority told it there were still issues with accessing the building which sits in the middle of a cordoned off demolition zone.
But the authority says access is not the issue, rather it is the building's structure that is being investigated by engineers.
Head of the flower show Dave Mee says with 40% of visitors to the show coming from outside Canterbury, not having the hotel running will have an impact.
