Christchurch orange zone residents in limbo

Christchurch residents living in orange-zoned homes say they are frustrated a decision has not yet been made on the fate of their homes.

On Friday, 213 properties were zoned red, meaning their owners cannot rebuild due to earthquake damage, while a further 42 sites were zoned green, allowing repairs to begin.

About 650 properties in the orange zone are still awaiting a decision by authorities - most of them in the suburb of Southshore.

Orange zone resident Diane Taylor says she is stressed and feels in a state of limbo until she knows what is going to happen with her house.

Jo Williams says she has been told a decision will not be made until June this year, while another resident Mike Wilson says the worst part is not knowing whether he will get to live out his days in a house he loves.

Canterbury Earthquake Recovery Minister Gerry Brownlee says officials are working as fast as they can to re-zone the remaining properties.
