The Health Research Council is to fund research into links between earthquake stress and a rare heart disease is among quake-related health studies to be funded.

Council chief executive Robin Olds has announced funding for five projects looking at the health impacts of the Canterbury earthquakes.

Dr Olds says projects include a database of all earthquake health issues reported to the Christchurch Hospital in the three days after the February quake.

Another will analyse 30 cases of stress cardiomyopathy, usually a rare heart disease, that occurred in Christchurch after that quake.
