$2.5m boost for new Court Theatre

The Court Theatre has been given $2.5 million by the Christchurch Earthquake Appeal Trust to build a new theatre in the suburb of Addington.

The theatre's lease was cancelled following earthquake damage to its premises at the Arts Centre in the central city.

Court Theatre chief executive Philip Aldridge says construction of the theatre is well underway, with a further $1 million needed to meet the $4.6 million budget.

Mr Aldridge says he is overwhelmed by the number of local and international donations that have flooded in - even before the Court started its fundraising campaign.

The Court Theatre plans to re-open at the new site on 10 December.
