Christchurch police are concerned about a leaflet that predicts a fatal earthquake for the city later this month, but say they don't believe it is illegal.
They say the document, which has a strong religious tone, has been dropped in letterboxes in the suburbs of Parklands, North Shore, New Brighton, Bexley and Opawa.
A spokesman says the leaflet predicts an off-shore earthquake for Christchurch on 28 September, and major flooding and loss of life.
He says police are worried about any prediction that may cause alarm to the public, but don't believe the leaflet drop is illegal and won't be taking any action at this point.
