An 18,000 seat stadium that will temporarily replace the earthquake-damaged AMI Stadium has been approved by Christchurch City Council.
Rugby League Park in Addington will be the new base for Super Rugby's Crusaders, who have not had a home ground since February.
The park will have a $1 million makeover, giving it 8000 more seats, new turf, and new lighting and player facilities.
The council says the park will also host the Canterbury provincial rugby team, as well as some A-league football and rugby league matches.
It is not yet known what will happen to the venue when AMI Stadium is repaired.
Both venues are owned by the council.
