Quake zone classifications challenged

Some 245 residents in the earthquake green zone in Christchurch are contesting their classification, believing their land is too badly to live on.

The Government has so far classified about 170,000 properties as green, meaning the land is safe enough for homes to be rebuilt.

Dallington resident Mathew Page says his whole street has severe land damage and can't understand why he and about 20 others will have to stay, while two-thirds of the street is zoned red.

Canterbury Earthquake Recovery Authority says it will not re-check any properties until all those that have yet to receive a final classification have been dealt with.
