The Canterbury Earthquake Recovery Authority says it is nearly a third of the way through demolishing the quake-damaged buildings in Christchurch that cannot be saved.
A total of 38,000 truckloads of rubble have been taken out of the city since the earthquake in February, and 78 demolition crews are currently at work.
The Recovery Authority's chief executive Roger Sutton says 370 buildings out of about 1200 have been demolished.
Meanwhile, 1600 households are still using chemical toilets or portaloos.
Immediately after the earthquake, 45,000 were using them.
Mr Sutton says the goal is for people currently without sewerage to be using their normal toilets by the end of August.
