Selwyn sections to be available soon

Selwyn District Council expects to soon fast-track the provision of sections and housing for people forced from their homes by the Canterbury earthquakes.

The council says the commencement of a $50 million Pines sewerage treatment plant at Burnham will help the process.

The plant will have the capacity to service expansion in Prebbleton, Lincoln, Rolleston and West Melton.

The council says some new housing developments have been subject to zoning constraints because of a lack of sewerage facilities.

Chief executive Paul Davey says the Pines plant, which will take the equivalent of 4000 Selwyn households off the Christchurch city system, will help lift zoning restrictions in the district.
