Quake inquest to resume in August

An inquest into the deaths of the victims of the Christchurch earthquake will resume in August.

The second stage of the coroner's hearing into the devastating quake on 22 February was interrupted by strong aftershocks on 13 June.

Coroner Gordon Matenga says the inquest will resume on 29 August.

Set down for a week, the inquest will hear evidence relating to the deaths of 88 of the people who died in the CTV building, 18 people who lost their lives at the Pyne Gould Corporation site and 41 people killed in other parts of Christchurch.

Mr Matenga says the inquests will be adjourned part-way through to await the findings of the Royal Commission.

He says it is important that the available evidence is heard as soon as possible for the sake of people who have lost family and friends.
