Parking fines again in Christchurch

Enforcement of parking rules will begin in Christchurch again on Monday.

Christchurch City Council says a large number of people, particularly from the business community, are complaining about parking.

The council says it has been taking a conservative approach since the earthquake on 22 February and has been issuing tickets only when direct complaints have been made.

Enforcement manager Gary Lennan says wardens will issue tickets to people who park for longer than their allotted time, as well as deal with safety offences such as parking on broken yellow lines.

He says parking space has become very valuable, especially in the suburbs where a lot of businesses have relocated.

Enforcing metered parking will begin early next month.
