Volunteer plumbers and drainlayers who have been helping make urgent repairs post the 22 February earthquake say they've completed the emergency response phase.

More than 90 tradespeople volunteered their skills and equipment after the earthquake to repair damaged water and sewerage systems and since then have helped more than 250 homeowners.

The volunteers came from throughout the country and as far afield as Australia and the Norfolk Islands.

An organiser of the voluntary effort says now the tradespeople have completed the emergency response it is time to focus on reconstruction.
