Another part of Christchurch's earthquake-stricken city centre has been opened.
The central city was severely damaged in the quake on 22 February.
Business people and residents whose properties are in zone 5 have been allowed into the area on Thursday morning and the area will be open to the public on Friday.
Zone 5 is the south-east corner of the city centre and is bordered by Colombo, St Asaph and Barbadoes streets and Moorhouse Avenue.
It includes the Christchurch polytech and the Catholic Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament.
Students will be allowed back into the area on Friday.
There are also shops, restaurants, visitor accommodation and car yards in the zone, including a well-known music venue, Al's Bar.
Civil Defence plans to open zone 8 in Sydenham next, followed by zone 6 and then the badly damaged zone 4 north in its efforts to reduce the cordon to one-fifth of its original size.
