Rebuilding decision delayed till report received

Earthquake Recovery Minister Gerry Brownlee says a decision about which Christchurch suburbs will be rebuilt will not be made until he has received a geotechnical report.

Several suburbs sustained significant damage after last month's earthquake, not just to houses but the land as well.

The Government has said 10,000 houses may have to be demolished and thousands of residents permanently relocated.

Mr Brownlee says it is a big exercise and one that cannot be rushed, as so many peoples' equity in their property is dependent on good decisions being made.
