More quake victims named

The names of seven more people killed in last week's devastating earthquake in Christchurch have been confirmed.

As of midday Friday, 10 days after the quake struck, the official death toll is 163, but the final figure is expected to be about 220.

Police have confirmed few names so far, but at a news conference in Christchurch on Friday morning, Superintendent Sam Hoyle read out the names of seven more.

They are: Dr Maysoon Mahdi Abbas, 61; Haruthaya Luangsurapeesakul, 32, of Thailand; Scott William Emerson Lucy, 38; Matthew Stuart McEachen, 25; Neil Glyn Stocker, 58, of Timaru; and wife and husband Joan Wield, 76, and Graham Wield, 77, of Christchurch.
