New Zealand Post says mail and courier services to earthquake-affected areas of Christchurch will resume next week.

It says posites will be helping with reconnaissance in accessible areas to establish where mail can be picked up from and delivered to from Tuesday.

New Zealand Post says while its mail processing centre escaped the quake relatively unscathed, mail delivery will depend on what areas are safe to access and staff availability.

The company is offering free mail redirection for residential customers in quake affected areas.
