The leaders of the country's 40 biggest companies will discuss with Prime Minister John Key and Finance Minister Bill English how they can best contribute to the quake recovery work.
The meeting on Thursday afternoon will be conducted in part by video link and will chaired by Fonterra chief executive Andrew Ferrier.
The idea was initiated by the chief executives of the companies, most of which have branches or factories in Christchurch.
Mr Ferrier says it may be that cash donations such as those begun by his firm are the most effective help business can offer. The company is donating $1 million and matching donations by its own staff and farmers.
A special cabinet committee met on Thursday morning to look at support for businesses disrupted by the earthquake.
The Canterbury Earthquake Recovery Committee was set up in the aftermath of the 7.1-magnitude earthquake in Canterbury on 4 September.
