The Contractors' Federation has launched a special website after reports of some traders and tradesmen charging earthquake premiums to Canterbury residents.

The federation says the website is aimed at providing Canterbury residents with peace of mind when selecting tradesmen for their homes.

Its chief executive, Jeremy Sole, says seven national organisations are involved representing plumbers, electricians, builders and civil contractors.

Each organisation has specified entry criteria and a strong set of rules and code of ethics, he says.
