The Earthquake Commission (EQC) says it's confident it will meet its deadline for settle most, if not all, of the Canterbury earthquake claims it had promised to resolve by the end of October.
In July, the commission promised 20,000 customers they would have claims worth less than $15,000 settled by the end of October.
As at the beginning of this week, EQC still had to process 2439 of those claims.
EQC's national claims manager Gail Kettle told Radio New Zealand's Morning Report programme there will be some customers it has not managed to pay.
"For that I am sorry, but there's often circumstances beyond our control or things have just gone wrong. The numbers are looking pretty good and we've done a lot of work to meet this target."
Ms Kettle says the Commission is on target to pay Port Hills' land claims by the end of this year, and all other land claims by the end of next year.
