The Audit Office is to investigate a complaint by Labour MP Lianne Dalziel, about how much money the Government gets back from insurance companies for properties in Christchurch's red zone.

In February, Ms Dalziel lodged a complaint with the Auditor-General's office, asking for an investigation into the way the Government is paying for red-zone properties.

Ms Dalziel said she is quite sure it will find that the Government gets back more insurance money than it paid some homeowners.

Auditor-General Lyn Provost said the Canterbury Earthquake Recovery Authority will be asked to show that the insurance recovery process is being managed appropriately.
