The frame for a massive stained glass window is being installed in Christchurch's transitional cathedral.
Two cherry pickers and a crane are working on Thursday to lift the first piece of the Trinity window's frame into place.
Once the frame is installed, stained glass panes will be fitted, and the entire operation is expected to take several weeks.
The 15-tonne triangular window has images from ChristChurch Cathedral's Rose window replicated on it and is intended to be a reminder of the earthquake-damaged structure.
The Anglican Diocese is spending about $4 million dollars on the construction of the Transitional Cathedral, otherwise known as the cardboard cathedral.
The structure is in its final stages of construction and is expected to be open to the public by early June.
