Organisers of the Canterbury Heritage awards are crediting record entry numbers to the fallout from the Christchurch earthquakes.
Since the inaugural awards in 2010, entries have nearly doubled to 80 nominations.
A new 'seismic award' has been created in recognition of the pre-earthquake strengthening work some building owners have carried out.
Heritage awards charitable trust chair Anna Crighton believes the earthquakes have highlighted to the public the significance of heritage sites in the area.
She said remaining heritage sites have become more meaningful since the majority have been destroyed by the quakes and by man.
The awards will be held in Christchurch on Thursday evening.
