Investment in rebuilding sought in Australia

Representatives of the Canterbury Earthquake Recovery Authority have visited Australia to try to encourage investment in the rebuilding of Christchurch.

Christchurch Central Development Unit director Warwick Issacs and investment manager James Hay returned on Wednesday from a trip to Sydney and Brisbane.

Mr Issacs says they met retail investors, private investor providers and one of the major banks, with a view of sounding out how they view Christchurch as an investment option.

He says the response was very positive and showed there was significant interest in Christchurch, although a lot of work would be needed before investments were made.

Mr Issacs says the trip was also an opportunity to meet the organisation managing reconstruction of areas of Queensland badly affected by flooding last year.
