Organisers of a protest calling for a halt to the demolition of Christchurch's cathedral have been invited to inspect the building.
The Anglican Church says the historic building is beyond repair and work has begun to reduce the structure to a height of two or three metres.
About 5000 people marched through the city on Saturday to demand the demolition stop.
Protest organiser and former Wigram MP Jim Anderton says he's been invited to inspect ChristChurch Cathedral along with the group's own engineers next week.
He says if they can come up with convincing alternatives there will be even more pressure on the Anglican Church to stop the demolition.
