Software developer Diligent Board Member Services has recorded its first full year profit as the listed company secured more clients.

The company generates its income from annual subscriptions for software that helps company boards keep track of their papers online.

The digital board book maker made an operating profit of $US914,000 in 2011, in contrast to a loss of $US2.4 million in 2010.

Diligent's revenue more than doubled to $US18 million as it grew its presence in North America, Europe, Asia and the Pacific.

The company signed up 570 new clients last year, including the New York Stock Exchange, which boosted revenue by about $US16 million.

The popularity of the iPad among executives has also lifted sales.

Shares in Diligent were up 10 cents to $2.80 at end of trading on Tuesday.

The company is giving no specific financial forecasts for 2012, but expects operating margins and cash flows to continue to grow.
