NZ and Australian sharemarkets down

The New Zealand sharemarket pared back earlier gains on Tuesday.

At 12.48pm, the NZX50 index was up 16 points, or 0.5%, at 3268 on turnover of $44 million.

Across the Tasman, the Australian 200 index is down 6 points at 42 77

The New Zealand dollar was trading at 82.97 US cents, 79.28 Australian cents, 50.66 pence, 63.72 yen and 0.5745 euro. The Trade Weighted Index was at 71.19.

Fletcher Building was up 2 cents to $7.72, Telecom was up 1.5c to $2.56 and Contact Energy was unchanged at $4.98.

Sky City Entertainment Group up 2 cents at $3.48, Fisher & Paykel Healthcare was up 5c at $2.32 and Auckland International Airport Ltd was up 1c to $2.21.

Cavalier Carpets was up 10c to $3.60, NZX was up 5c at $2.27 and Kathmandu was up 5c to $2.03.

Restaurant Brands down 4c to $2.33 and Steel & Tube was down 2c to $2.53. The Warehouse was unchanged at $3.42.
