Mark Ratcliffe to stay on at Chorus helm

7:41 pm on 19 July 2011

Telecom has named the executive who will head its network business, Chorus, if shareholders approve its plan to split into two separately listed companies.

The company says that if a demerger proceeds, Mark Ratcliffe will continue in his role as Chorus chief executive.

Mr Ratcliffe is already leading Chorus's planned separation from the rest of Telecom's operations and is a natural choice to continue in the role of chief executive of the network company.

Telecom must split in two to participate in the Government's ultra-fast broadband initiative, but has yet to present its shareholders with a plan to demerge.

It is bound by confidentiality to disclose the information to all investors at the same time.

Telecom says its chief executive Paul Reynolds will continue in his role, if the demerger is approved.

But many commentators doubt Mr Reynolds will stay on at the head of what will undoubtedly be the smaller portion of the business.

Telecom aims to have Chorus operating as a standalone business by the end of this year.

Shares in Telecom rose almost 2% after the announcement.
