BNZ economists say a slight slip in confidence should not dent prospects for economic growth.
The BNZ Confidence Survey shows a net 45% of respondents expect the economy to be better in a year's time.
While the reading has fallen slightly from the 57% recorded in June, it is still one of the most optimistic results since the survey began in 2005.
The BNZ says that suggests strong economic growth is just down the track.
Sentiment expressed amongst the legal procession jumped markedly, and accountants also became more positive, which the BNZ says shows some strength to optimistic growth expectations.
The retailing sector was also a lot less negative than in previous surveys.
