The Christchurch earthquakes have forced Australian-based waste company Transpacific Industries to make writedowns of between $A225 million and $A250 million in the year to the end of June.
The company owns Waste Management in New Zealand.
The impairment is mainly the result of the company applying a more conservative future growth rate to its New Zealand division because of the difficulties facing the economy following the earthquakes.
It is also restructuring its manufacturing division.
Transpacific says the writedowns don't reflect the New Zealand business's performance, which continues to be strong.
It says the Christchurch earthquake has boosted revenue by 2.5%.
