Auckland house prices slip

11:49 am on 4 May 2011

House prices in Auckland have fallen from a record high in March, but the largest real estate company in the city says the market still has strength.

Barfoot & Thompson says the average selling price for homes fell to $544,975 last month.

That's significantly less than the record $581,000 reached in March, but it is $3500 more than in April last year and is a record for the month.

The company sold 723 homes during the month, 7.7% more than in April last year.

Managing director Peter Thompson says there's been good activity right through the market.

New listings fell by more than a third during the month, to 1033 and are more than 20% lower than they were in April last year.

Barfoot & Thompson says data on its rentals will be issued later this month.
