Ryman Healthcare says it's been granted resource consents for its new retirement village in Tauranga, and construction will begin later this month.

Ryman says the $100 million village, which will be named the Bob Owens Retirement Village, will lift the company's build rate from 450 units or beds a year to 550 units.

The company recently bought a site in Waikanae on the Kapiti Coast, and is looking for a site to build its first village in Australia.
