Rising fuel costs to be passed on

The trucking industry says the rising price of diesel fuel will make goods more expensive to transport and to buy.

Since December, diesel has risen by 16 cents to $1.41 per litre in the main centres.

The Road Transport Forum says that is putting pressure on transport operators who carry the most goods in New Zealand.

Chief executive Ken Shirley says operators cannot afford to absorb the rises and will pass them on.

He says it will affect their viability if they do not, as margins are already very tight.
