Auckland lines company Vector is weighing up the future of its fibre business.

The company has appointed Barrenjoey Capital to undertake a strategic review of the fibre division, which specialises in building and managing data networks for businesses.

Vector chief executive Simon Mackenzie told Nine to Noon it had been approached by a number of parties interested in the fibre assets.

"We're not making any decisions, we're just prepared to look at that," he said.

"I think it really was just how do we actually look at those assets [as] people have expressed an interest in them, so we're just contemplating that."

Mackenzie believed lines companies have not been side-tracked from focusing on their core operations by investing in other ventures.

He expected a decision to be made in two to three months.
