Vontier chief executive Mark Morelli said it was an exciting opportunity for the US-based company.

"We are excited to acquire industry leader Invenco and expand our software enabled workflow solutions and subscription business," Morelli said.

Invenco's technology is designed for petrol stations, with outdoor payment terminals and cloud-based services.

Invenco, co-founded by Sir Peter Mair, was expected to earn $US80m ($NZ128m) in revenue this year.

The final purchase price could be more depending on Invenco's performance.
