TeamTalk, Fulton Hogan in bid for broadband roll-out

5:56 pm on 2 February 2010

Listed mobile radio company TeamTalk has submitted a joint bid with roading contractor Fulton Hogan to roll out an ultra fast broadband network throughout the Wellington region.

TeamTalk subsidiary CityLink currently provides fibre optic broadband to Wellington's central business district and Weta Workshops in Miramar.

Teamtalk's managing director David Ware says Telecom is its biggest competitor in the region, but he believes TeamTalk will offer customers a reliable and cost effective service.

He says it will take seven or eight years to roll out to every street in Wellington.

Bids to participate in the $1.5 billion rollout of ultra-fast broadband across the country closed on Friday.
