Windfarm near Raglan next Meridian project

Meridian Energy says the 64 megawatt Te Uku windfarm near Raglan is likely to be the next of its renewable energy projects to get underway.

The state-owned power company is planning to spend $2.6 billion dollars over next five years on upgrading and building new assets, including wind projects in New Zealand and some in Australia.

Chief executive Tim Lusk says some of the projects in its renewable energy development programme are at consenting stage, and total more than 900 megawatts of generation from hydro or wind.

Mr Lusk says it will prove tough to get new projects away, and the company is looking to find the right time to commit to investing.

He says Te Uku is a consented site and is likely to be the next project to go ahead.
