Fletcher Building is due to issue its annual results on Wednesday.
The company has already signalled the recession may see its underlying profit fall by up to 40%, to about $280 million, due to the downturn in house building.
Forsyth Barr's head of research, Rob Mercer, expects the company to report a headline loss of $65 million, mainly due to one-off charges.
