Wall Street stocks ended with slim gains on Tuesday in choppy trade.
The modest rise kept a three-week uptrend intact and pushed the main indexes to fresh 2009 highs.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 33.63 points, or 0.36% to end at 9,320.10. It rebounded late in the day after spending most of the session in the red.
The Nasdaq composite added 2.70 points, or 0.13%, to 2,011.31.
The Standard & Poor's 500 managed a gain of 3.02 points, or 0.30% to 1,005.65 after topping 1,000 on Monday for the first time since November 4.
Shares in Europe closed lower on Tuesday, slipping back from the nine-month high reached in the previous session.
In London, the FTSE 100 closed 11.09 points lower at 4,671.37.
In Frankfurt, the DAX index ended at 5,417.02 points, down 9.83 or 0.18%.
In Paris, the CAC-40 index closed at 3,476.37 points, down 1.43 or 0.04%.
