Unison Networks has acquired ETEL, a designer and manufacturer of electricity distribution transformers.
Chief executive Ken Sutherland says the acquisition is an important move that will underpin the lines company's strategy of diversification and growth.
Despite the downturn, Mr Sutherland says ETEL is a solid performer in the domestic market and is experiencing solid growth in Australia and the Pacific Islands.
ETEL will continue to operate under its own brand name.
