Biscuit and snack bar manufacturer Griffin's Foods is ready to ramp-up production to meet a growing demand for New Zealand-made food in Asia.
The Philippines-based owner of Griffin's, Universal Robina Corporation, has just completed a $25 million expansion of the Auckland factory at Wiri, which now has capacity to produce over 390 million snack bars a year, with plans to produce new products specifically designed for Asian tastes.
Griffin's snacks include the Eta and Nice & Natural product ranges, in addition to classic New Zealand biscuits such as Gingernuts, Squiggles and Cameo Cremes.
The chief executive of Griffin's, Alison Barrass, said the company aimed to substantially increase exports, which currently accounted for about a third of total sales.
She said the fact the business had a New Zealand-based manufacturing process was critical to the brand's success.
Griffin's MallowPuffs and Cookie Bear biscuits are said to be particularly popular in Asia.
